Lawmakers Get Paid During DHS Shutdown and Senate Recess. No Shutdown Pay for Congress Takes Message of Reform to Frustrated Dulles Travelers.
Travelers are exhausted from TSA lines, delayed or canceled flights, and the stress on their families, all because Congress refuses to compromise and pay federal employees.”
WASHINGTON, DC, UNITED STATES, April 1, 2026 /EINPresswire.com/ -- This Friday, April 3, 2026, representatives from No Shutdown Pay for Congress will hold a public education and advocacy event at Washington Dulles International Airport (IAD). As the partial government shutdown of the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) enters its seventh week, TSA officers are being required to report for duty without pay, while travelers are facing long security lines and flight delays. The event is taking place during the U.S. Senate’s (paid) State Work Period recess (March 30 – April 10) while essential DHS employees continue working without guaranteed pay.— Jack Magruder
No Shutdown Pay for Congress will distribute educational pamphlets and have conversations with travelers interested in learning more about the harmful impacts of government shutdowns and the No Shutdown Pay for Congress reform.
“Travelers are exhausted from TSA lines, delayed or canceled flights, and the stress on their families, all because Congress refuses to compromise and pay federal employees,” said Jack Magruder, Executive Director of No Shutdown Pay for Congress. “Yet lawmakers keep cashing their paychecks on the taxpayers’ dime. This double standard must end. We’re here to empower everyday Americans to demand accountability and action from Congress amid the DHS shutdown.”
EVENT DETAILS:
• Date & Time: Friday, April 3, 2026, between 8 A.M. and 3 P.M.

WHAT THE MOVEMENT IS ASKING CONGRESS TO DO:
1. Sign the No Shutdown Pay Pledge — commit to forgoing pay and backpay during shutdowns (or donate it to charity).
2. Work with our organization to craft clear, concise language for a proposed 28th Constitutional Amendment.
3. Support a single-purpose amendment — no unrelated riders or special interests.
4. Introduce or co-sponsor legislation immediately to end this unfair practice.
No Shutdown Pay for Congress is a nonpartisan organization advocating for constitutional, statutory, and pledge-based reform to prevent members of Congress from receiving a salary during any period in which Congress fails to enact timely federal appropriations, resulting in a government shutdown. We seek to align Congress with the consequences borne by federal workers, military service members, and the American public when Congress fails to fulfill its duty to fund the government.
