Germany, Poland ink agreement for advanced military satellite program

(MENAFN) Germany’s defense firm Rheinmetall announced on Tuesday a technology partnership with Polish deep-tech company SATIM Monitoring Satelitarny to support SPOCK-1, a next-generation satellite reconnaissance program for the German armed forces.

Under the agreement, SATIM will supply artificial intelligence-driven technology that transforms large volumes of synthetic aperture radar (SAR) imagery into actionable intelligence for military and defense applications. The contract formalizes SATIM’s integration into Rheinmetall’s growing satellite reconnaissance portfolio.

SAR satellites offer continuous ground monitoring under all conditions—day or night, in rain, smoke, or cloud cover—using radar instead of optical sensors. Such capabilities are considered essential for modern intelligence, surveillance, and reconnaissance (ISR) operations.

Rheinmetall emphasized that the system will be operated from Germany, enhancing national ISR capabilities and situational awareness as part of its broader strategy to strengthen operations in a digital and connected battlespace.

“Our partnership with SATIM marks another important milestone in advancing Rheinmetall’s strategy,” said Timo Haas, CEO of Rheinmetall Electronics.

SATIM CEO Jacek Strzelczyk highlighted the combination of startup innovation and global defense experience, noting that the collaboration aligns with Germany’s ISR requirements and national security priorities.

The SPOCK-1 program will give the Bundeswehr exclusive access to a radar satellite constellation, supporting NATO’s eastern flank and Germany’s 45th Armored Brigade stationed in Lithuania. Production of the first satellites is scheduled to begin in the third quarter of 2026 at Rheinmetall’s Neuss facility, with operations expected to continue through 2030.
