Israeli Airstrikes Target Southern Syria
According to an official Syrian news agency, numerous attacks were carried out by the Israeli military in the Suwayda governorate, an area predominantly inhabited by the Druze community.
However, the report did not mention whether there were any casualties resulting from these actions.
Israel’s Army Radio confirmed a strike on a Syrian armored vehicle after it had entered the city of Suwayda.
In addition, the news agency noted that Israeli warplanes also hit targets on the outskirts of Izra city, situated in the rural areas of Daraa.
A formal statement from the Israeli military revealed that Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu had ordered the armed forces to target Syrian troops and military hardware positioned in Suwayda.
The statement specified that the military “struck several armored fighting vehicles consisting of tanks, APCs, and MLRS, as well as access roads, in order to disrupt the convoys' arrival to the area.”
Earlier on Tuesday, Syrian Defense Minister Murhaf Abu Qasra declared a complete truce in Suwayda following talks with influential figures from the local communities.
As reported by the news agency, Syrian military units have initiated the withdrawal of heavy weaponry from Suwayda, signaling a transition of control over the city's districts to internal security units charged with upholding public order and safety.
